Teacher Evaluation

State law requires that all probationary teachers receive three evaluations during each year of their probationary period and that each tenured teacher have at least one summative evaluation performed by a school administrator every three years. Minnesota Statute 122A.40

Teachers are on a three year evaluation cycle at ROCORI.  Two years are off cycle where teachers select a peer to do an observation.  The third year is on-cycle when an administrator does a formal evaluation.  ROCORI has adopted InTASC as the model for teacher evaluations.  The district evaluation committee has developed a rubric based on the ten InTASC standards to be used as the evaluation tool for the district.

Building administrators will observe classrooms for short periods of time, using what is referred to as a ‘walkthrough’ strategy. This strategy is intended to allow administrators to see more classrooms more often and to observe a broader variety of instruction than would be feasible through a full class period observation.

ROCORI EVALUATION PROCESS 

On-cycle: One summative formal evaluation during the on-cycle year. Select one standard area that was not done during the peer off-cycle observations (standard areas 1-3, 4-5, 6-8). The formal observation by administration will also always include standards 9-10.  

Off-cycle: One peer observation per year of the two off-cycle years. In years of peer review, select the standard areas that were not observed by administration (standard areas 1-3, 4-5, 6-8). Complete the cover page and reflection and submit it to your building administrator.

Induction: 

Year 1:  

Learning conversation will take place within the first couple months of the school year. This is not one of the three evaluation forms but provides information for the evaluation process.  

The three evaluation forms for a teacher in induction include:

Walkthrough (based on InTASC): 1X/year. 

Formal Evaluation (InTASC standards 1-3): 1x/year.

Portfolio review (InTASC standards 1-3): 1x/year.

The three evaluation forms for a teacher in induction include:
