The One and Only Ivan book cover

Starting this month, our three elementary schools will be embarking on a special project, an all-school book club called One District, One Book. Every family will receive a copy of the same book – Katherine Applegate’s The One and Only Ivan.

One District, One Book is a novel program in that children of all grade levels will all be listening to their parents read the same book. Strange or daring as that may seem, it actually makes sound educational sense. Reading professionals recommend reading material out loud that is beyond a child's own reading level. We also believe that you can and should continue reading chapter books with your older children, even when they are able to read by themselves. We have selected a title that can be followed and understood and enjoyed by younger students, but will still captivate and stimulate older children.

Building Tallest Tower in 60 seconds

The seventh annual ROCORI Coaches Carnival will occur on Friday, March 22nd from 3-5:30PM in the ROCORI High School and Middle School Gyms and Commons.

Students in grades 3-8 will be invited and informed about the event during school and a permission sheet will be sent home. Please encourage students to bring their permission slips and $6 to their teachers prior to the event this week as this will help check them in faster at the door. (Sheets will be available through the schools if needed).

All students in grades 3-8 are invited to attend the event without a parent.  Students who are younger can come but will need to come with a parent or guardian and sign up at the door.  Eligible students who decide to come at the last minute can also check in at the door (#11).  All parents of students are welcome to attend with their children.

The carnival will include many prizes and fun activities including many sports or activity booths and inflatable fun areas.  This event will also allow students to meet and have fun with current ROCORI High School athletes.  Music will be provided and there will be numerous awards and prizes to win at over 50 various activity booths as well as a drawing with special prizes at the end in the auditorium.  There will also be concessions available including cotton candy.
