ROCORI LEVY INFORMATION
LOCAL OPTIONAL REVENUE
In the 2014 legislative session, the State Legislature approved Local Optional Revenue for all districts, which had been previously available only to districts in the seven county metro area. The Local Optional Revenue allowed the District to convert the voter approved levy to Local Optional Revenue, up to $424 per pupil unit. The State also allowed an additional Board approved levy authority of up to $300 per pupil unit. The District decided to participate in both these legislative actions to more steadily anticipate future funding.
HOW HAS THE MONEY BEEN USED?
This levy has been used for specific purposes. The three main purposes are to support staff positions, to provide classroom resources, and to enhance programs. Those areas of emphasis continue to be the goal of the levy resources.
- The first priority was to maintain staff. The primary goal was to keep class size at appropriate levels. In addition, the staffing was intended to provide more focused Reading and Math instruction (especially at grades kindergarten through second grade).
- A second priority was to provide classroom resources. This was done by providing curriculum support, replacing and purchasing textbooks and supporting other program improvements.
- The final priority was to upgrade programs across the district. Specifically, the district targeted improvements in technology and science equipment. In addition, the funds have helped with global language at the middle school, academic achievement programs, and unique opportunities for students.
