Mysterious Fiction

Elective Course Description for Mysterious Fiction:  Students will learn about the genre of mystery.  Students will read, view, and listen to various mysteries, including tales of horror and detective stories, in the forms of interactive plays, original texts, and game and movie adaptations of classic mysteries.  Students will also write their own mystery plays or stories and present them in class.

Power Standards:

  • Analyze how particular lines of dialogue or incidents in a story or drama propel the action, reveal aspects of a character, or provoke a decision.
  • Analyze how differences in points of view of the characters and audience create such effects as suspense and dramatic irony.
  • Analyze the extent to which a filmed production of a story or drama stays faithful to or departs from the text or script, evaluating the choices made by the director or actors.
  • Write narratives to develop imagined experiences or events using effective technique, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences.
